Welcome to Ashburn Media Company. We're a full-service digital and TV group with editorial, production and consulting services and a website U/X division. Our non-profit partner, Foundation for Media Innovation, works to support high school and college students interested in a career in digital and broadcast media.

Our Mission

We provide top drawer services with a personal touch by experienced media professionals. Our media training tailors sessions to fit clients' unique needs. Our television and digital production arm brings together veterans with decades of combined experience in newsrooms and in the field.

Daily Download website

Ashburn Media Company created and published the Daily Download website from 2011-2013 with a grant from the Knight Foundation, The site highlighted the great strides made by news outlets in providing tools for journalists and the public to better understand the complex media world.

Our website publishing business includes U/X consulting and creation for clients looking for a more dynamic user experience with enhanced design and information architecture.  We tap into our network of design and development specialists to assemble the best team for each project’s unique requirements.

Animal Planet Heroes: Hurricane Rescues and Animal Planet Heroes: Hurricane Reunions - Two one-hour specials chronicling animal rescue efforts in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.


Debate - 13-part series took on controversial issues of the day and posed them before dueling high-profile guests.


USA TODAY's Weight-Loss Challenge - This 8-part series profiled six overweight Americans challenged to shed pounds on six different diet plans.


Soul of a Champion - 11-part series takes a unique and in-depth look at what drives sports champions, defining what separates these athletes from others with the same physical skills.

City Limits Fishing - 6-part weekly series in February 2008 which explores some of the best places to catch limits of fish within city limits.


10 Great Reasons - 8-part weekly series in February 2008. This countdown show will pay tribute to acts, stars and topics related to contemporary pop music, focusing on music you genuinely love, but may be just a tad embarrassed to admit.


Gotta Get Gold - 10-part series launching July 28, 2008 previewing Olympic athletes. Focusing on the most intense sports of the summer, USA TODAY LIVE teams up with Gannett Broadcasting to produce this series.

About Lauren Ashburn

Lauren Ashburn is a 20-year veteran of print and broadcast. She created Ashburn Media and the Foundation for Media Innovation in 2009 to support digital media projects.

Prior to this, she was Managing Editor of Gannett Broadcasting and USA Today Live where she controlled financial operations for the unit, hosted network and cable news programs and executive produced more than a dozen award-winning tv and internet series and specials. She was a member of the newspaper's management committee.

She created a multimedia CBS News/USA Today 13-part collaboration looking at success stories in a down economy. She leveraged broadcast, cable and internet content in order to transition USA TODAY from a print-based organization to a digital media company fully utilizing the power of audio and video. She has served as a contributor to Daily Beast, NewsHour, and Fox News.

Ashburn served as USA Today Anchor and Correspondent where she covered political conventions, 9/11, natural disasters, Congress, and interviewed U.S. Presidents, Ambassadors, and high-profile celebrities. She worked as a reporter/anchor at WJLA-TV, the ABC affiliate in Washington, DC, and at WHP-TV, the CBS affiliate in Harrisburg, Pa. She has won several awards for her reporting and producing.

Ashburn received her Master's Degree in Journalism from Columbia University and her Bachelor's Degree from Albright College in Reading, Pa. She has since been awarded Albright’s Young Alumna Achievement Award for career performance and served on its Board. She lives in Washington, DC with her husband and three children.
